Peculiar medieval burial

You are here

The burial was not composed of a skeleton, but only buried the skull and jaw of an adult woman. It had a clear intentional disposition, as it was found at the midpoint of the grave, with 3 flat stone chocks, located at the back of the skull to maintain the position. The orientation was different from the rest, since it was facing south.

It is an isolated but very significant event, since according to the Muslim rite all members of the community were to be buried according to Coranic rules.
