After twenty years of abandonment, and even forty in the case of the branch of La Hijuela, the traditional irrigation system of Barjas was rehabilitated in collaboration with the National and Natural Park of Sierra Nevada, and CEAMA.

An analysis of the impacts of River Basin Management Plan (2015-2021) on the historical irrigation systems in the Andalusian Mediterranean River Basins (Spain) has been performed.

In the framework of the project, the degradation of water cultural heritage was identified as an important issue within the water planning.

This policy brief summarises the findings of the MEMOLA project with regard to the impact of this policy on the water cultural heritage associated with historical irrigation systems.

The didactic notebook titled “La Alpujarra, Cultural Landscape“ focuses in the study area of Sierra Nevada, and more specifically on the cultural, natural and historical landscape of the region of La Alpujarra, located between the provinces of Granada and Almeria.
