Monti di Trapani cultural routes

Il Fiume Calemici-Gaggera-Caldo rappresenta il filo conduttore dell’itinerario escursionistico che somma valori diversi in poco spazio: ambientali, storici, archeologici, funzionali. Assieme al San Bartolomeo ebbe un ruolo chiave nella storia locale, rappresentando una via di comunicazione dalla costa verso l’interno, e viceversa, sin da epoche remote. In epoca greco-ellenistica e romana, l’antica città di Segesta aveva il suo emporio e l’importante porto Emporium Segestanorum alla foce del fiume San Bartolomeo. In epoca medievale diversi castelli come quello di Calatafimi, Monte Barbaro e Calathamet, sorsero proprio lungo tale asse. Successivamente il fiume si arricchì di una consistente serie di mulini idraulici per la trasformazione cerealicola.
